About me...

Born in 1956, I first came into touch with sailing in 1980. At that time I was young and unspoilt, and I hardly ever got involved with wind directions, lee or luv, squalls, etc.. I didn't stand much at the helm at that time but spent more time in the galley...

Married early, divorced soon, I wanted to discover the world. So I made my way from Europe to USA and South America, later Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Taiwan, Hawaii, Tahiti, Bora Bora etc. mostly with a rucksack or a Land Rover. The money I earned at that time was carefully put aside to afford those trips.

At the age of 48 - but not wiser - I wanted to re-define myself ( according to my friends this should happen more than once). So I quit a job again and drove to Breege, RĂ¼gen, Germany. Three months I spent there with sailing courses, sailing cruises, sailing exams.

Not knowing yet whether the " ocean " would grab me and if I might even be suitable for long distances, I decided in 2005 to cross the Atlantic with the annual ARC Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (this was the 1st time). I was enthusiastic about the long distances. To watch the celestial sky without any further light influences, to have the sea with a buzzing wind around you, to take up the challenge of bringing good dishes to the table, the organization, the whole atmosphere...
It had caught me!
